The following error occurs in VT Transaction+/VT Cash Book when attempting to access the Self employment/UK property/Foreign property options if you are in a financial period before you have MTD obligations according to HMRC.
For example, you have MTD obligations from 2026/27 but you are in the 2025/26 period.
This is resolved by changing the financial period to within the current tax year.
This error arises from an issue with HMRC's MTD system and is entirely beyond the control of VT Software.
This error may indicate that HMRC's MTD system is busy. Please try again later or early the next day.
Only a specific minority of businesses appear to suffer, but for them the error can occur repeatedly on a particular day.
